Garner Group and ABI Research are predicting 30 billion devices will be connected via the internet by 2020. Whether that includes thermostats, automobiles, health monitors, running shoes, watches or eye wear – internet connected devices are well on their way to becoming ubiquitous ushering in a new industry commonly referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). The explosive growth in embedded devices will result in an increase in legal liability, thereby placing increasing demands and responsibility on an organization’s IP compliance function.
